Hobart & Southern
Hobart is the capital city of Tasmania and is located at the southern tip of the island. It’s a beautiful place with a mix of old and new, where you can explore history, art, and nature all in one spot. In Hobart, you can visit places like the Salamanca Market, where you can buy yummy food and see local art. You can also go to the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), which has amazing art and fun activities. Just outside of Hobart, you can explore the beautiful landscapes of Southern Tasmania, with places like Mount Wellington, where you can hike and see amazing views of the city and the ocean.
The weather in Hobart and Southern Tasmania is cooler than many parts of Australia. In summer, from December to February, the weather is mild and comfortable. Daytime temperatures usually stay between 18°C and 25°C (64°F to 77°F), which is perfect for exploring outside. However, the weather can change quickly, and it can be windy at times, so it’s always good to bring a jacket, especially in the evenings.
In winter, from June to August, the weather gets much colder. Daytime temperatures are usually between 8°C and 14°C (46°F to 57°F), and at night, it can get as low as 0°C (32°F). In the mountains, there is snow, so you can even go skiing or snowboarding if you like winter sports! Winter is also the wettest season, so it’s a good idea to bring a raincoat.
The best time to visit Hobart and Southern Tasmania is in summer (December to February) or spring (September to November), when the weather is mild, and you can enjoy all the outdoor activities!
