Yellow Water (Ngurrungurrudjba) Wetland

Highlights

The Yellow Water Wetlands in Kakadu National Park are an amazing place to experience Australia’s unique wildlife. Walk along the boardwalk or take a boat cruise to see crocodiles, birds, and lush water plants up close. It’s like stepping into a nature documentary!

Fun fact: The wetlands are home to over 280 bird species, including majestic jabirus and colourful kingfishers. During the dry season, you can even walk across the floodplains to a viewing platform for a closer look at the Home Billabong.

What You Need To know

Guidelines

  • Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the parks website for up to date information on the current conditions. Ensure to check for any updates relating to any warnings that may be issued for the area, and check for the opening and closing times.
  • Ensure you observe all safety signs, and be aware that whenever you are near water in the park, there is a risk of crocs! Kakadu has Crocodile Management Zones to minimise risk to humans. Even in these zones you should be cautious. Crocodile warning signs and Crocodile Management Zones are not found everywhere.
  • Wear suitable footwear and always ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements when exploring the Northern Territory.
  • Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
  • Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
  • Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
  • National Park fees and camping fees apply. See parks website for more details.
  • Do not feed the wildlife.
  • Leave nothing but footprints. Take nothing but memories.
