Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon)

Highlights

Watarrka National Park, home to Kings Canyon, is an adventure waiting for you in the Northern Territory! Imagine walking beside 300-metre high red sandstone cliffs, discovering cool forests full of ferns, palms, and cycads, and spotting native animals hiding in this desert oasis. For over 20,000 years, the Luritja people have called this place home, and you can see traces of their incredible history while exploring the park's unique rock formations.

Take the Kings Creek Walk, an easy 1-kilometre trail along the valley floor, perfect for soaking in the stunning views. Feeling more adventurous? Wake up early and hike the Canyon Rim Walk to see the sunrise and get breathtaking views of the desert and lush valleys. Don’t miss the Kathleen Springs Walk, where you’ll learn about local history and find a beautiful spring-fed waterhole.

If you’re up for a big challenge, the Giles Track is a 22-kilometre hike connecting Kings Canyon to Kathleen Springs, offering experienced hikers a truly epic journey. Whether you're looking for a gentle stroll or a thrilling adventure, Watarrka National Park has something for everyone!
