The Tarkine Drive is an incredible 60-kilometre journey through the wild, untouched landscapes of north-west Tasmania. This scenic drive takes you through rainforests, across rivers, and past beautiful reserves, all while offering amazing opportunities to spot wildlife like platypuses and swift parrots! Starting at Stanley, you’ll pass by natural wonders like Kanunnah Bridge Picnic Area and Sumac Lookout, where you can take in views over the river and rainforest.

Stop at Julius River Forest Reserve to explore cool temperate rainforests, or head to Lake Chisholm Forest Reserve, known for its unique flooded limestone sinkholes. The Trowutta Arch Rain Forest Walk is an incredible experience with stunning natural rock formations. Whether you're hiking through ancient forests or simply enjoying the drive, The Tarkine Drive gives you a real taste of Tasmania’s wild beauty!

  • Weather conditions in Tasmania can change quickly and frequently, especially in alpine areas. Snow, rain, wind and sun are all possible at any time of the year, and bushfires can occur between October and March.
