Super Pit Lookout
Highlights
The Super Pit in Kalgoorlie is a jaw-dropping sight! It’s one of the largest open-cut gold mines in the world and the biggest in Australia. Imagine standing at the lookout and seeing a massive hole that’s 3.7 kilometres long, 1.5 kilometres wide, and nearly 500 metres deep – big enough to fit Uluru!
Every year, around 900,000 ounces of gold are mined here. If you want to learn more about how it all works, you can join a guided tour and see the huge trucks and machinery in action. The Super Pit is also part of the Golden Mile, where gold was first discovered in the late 1800s, kicking off the famous gold rush. It’s an amazing place to visit and learn about Western Australia’s rich mining history.
