Rottnest Island

Highlights

Rottnest Island, or “Rotto” as the locals call it, is a car-free island paradise just 19 kilometres from Perth. It's famous for its beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, and friendly quokkas! The island is perfect for swimming, snorkelling, and surfing. You can also go cycling or hop on the Bayseeker bus to explore the hidden spots of the island.

Rottnest Island has a fascinating history. It was once used as an Aboriginal prison and played a big role in Australia’s World War II defences. While you’re there, you can visit the old tunnels, lighthouse, and colonial buildings to learn more about the island’s past. Don’t forget to grab your camera to snap a pic with a quokka – the cute marsupial that gave the island its name!
