Mulgowan (Yappa) Aboriginal Art Site Walking Track
Highlights
Embark on an inspiring outback adventure at the Mulgowan (Yappa) Aboriginal Art Site Walking Track in Gundabooka National Park! Discover fascinating Aboriginal rock art by the Ngemba and Paakandji people, surrounded by breathtaking bushland. The art depicts animals, dancers, and hand stencils, giving you a glimpse into a vibrant culture.
The 1.4km return trail takes you past unique boulders and wildlife like hooded robins and pink cockatoos. The Gunderbooka Range and Mulareenya Creek were significant ceremonial areas, and the echoes of their cultural heritage can still be felt here. Take your time to soak in the peaceful atmosphere before heading back.

- Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the parks website for up to date information on the current conditions.
- Check the weather before you set out as the road to Mulgowan (Yappa) Aboriginal Art site can become boggy when it rains.
- Wear suitable footwear and ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements.
- Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
- Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
- Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
- Ensure to let a responsible adult know of your plans and report back into them once you have finished exploring for the day.
- Safety is of high priority in outback areas. In summer, temperatures can reach up to 50°C in some places. Food, water and fuel supplies can be scarce. Before you head off, check for road closures and plan your trip accordingly.
