Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk

Highlights

Take on the challenge of reaching Australia’s highest peak with the Mount Kosciuszko Summit Walk! Starting at Charlotte Pass, this 18.6km return trail offers breathtaking views of the Snowy Mountains and wildflowers in early summer.

The trail takes you past the scenic Snowy River and historic Seaman’s Hut before leading to Rawson Pass. From there, it’s a short walk to the summit at 2,228 metres. For those seeking an extra challenge, combine this walk with the Main Range track for an unforgettable adventure.

Adult Supervision Recommended

Due to the length and elevation of the trail, as well as weather variability, adult supervision is recommended for younger or less experienced hikers.

Alpine areas present special safety issues. Conditions can be extreme and may change rapidly, particularly in winter. It’s important to be prepared and find out how to stay safe in alpine areas.
Wear suitable footwear and ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements.
Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
Ensure to let a responsible adult know of your plans and report back into them once you have finished exploring for the day.
National park fees apply, check the parks website for bookings and further details.
Cycling, including fat bikes or snow bikes, is permitted only on the section of trail between Charlotte Pass and Rawson Pass.
You can cross-country ski or snowshoe this trail in winter but there are no snow poles marking the route.
Walking is not recommended in winter as this trail is snowbound.
