Discover & Get to Know
Megafauna Central
Highlights
Step back in time at Megafauna Central! Discover the massive creatures that roamed Central Australia 8 million years ago during the Miocene epoch. Explore life-size replicas of ancient animals, such as giant wombat-like creatures and marsupial lions, and learn how their fossils were found at Alcoota Scientific Reserve. You can even dig up "fossils" in an interactive exhibit and watch palaeontologists work in a real lab!
Fun fact: The world’s largest bird, a giant crocodile, and marsupial wolves once called Australia home. Can you imagine meeting them?
