Lake Eyre

Highlights

Lake Eyre, also known as Kati Thanda, is a place like no other! When dry, it’s a massive salt lake stretching across the horizon, but when it floods, it comes alive with thousands of waterbirds like pelicans and gulls. Standing at the lowest point in Australia, you’ll feel like you’re on another planet!

The area around the lake is full of fascinating features, like red sand dunes and clay pans. It’s also part of one of the biggest drainage systems in the world. Bring a camera because the scenery changes with the sunlight—it’s like a natural kaleidoscope!
