Discover & Get to Know

Ivanhoe Crossing

Highlights

Ivanhoe Crossing is a thrilling destination where adventure meets the untamed wilderness! This old concrete causeway stretches over the mighty Ord River, home to some of the largest saltwater crocodiles in Australia. Imagine spotting crocodiles sunbathing along the riverbanks or gliding beneath the water while you enjoy the spectacular views of this wild and beautiful region.

Once a main road to Wyndham, Ivanhoe Crossing became submerged after the creation of the Ord Irrigation Scheme in the 1960s. The water flows over the causeway all year round, making it a unique sight, especially during the wet season when it becomes impassable to vehicles. Just a short 10-minute drive from Kununurra, it’s a must-visit spot in Western Australia's Kimberley region!

While fishing is a popular activity here, standing on the crossing itself is not recommended due to the crocodiles. Keep your camera ready for some incredible wildlife shots and soak in the natural beauty of this rugged outback location.
