Hippo's Yawn

Highlights

Hippo's Yawn is a fun and quirky rock formation near Wave Rock in Hyden, Western Australia. It gets its name because it looks just like a yawning hippo! Climb through its “mouth” for a great photo and enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings. This spot is a great mix of adventure and creativity for kids and teens.

Just a short walk away is Wave Rock, a massive granite formation that looks like a giant frozen wave about to crash. Did you know it’s 27 million years old? Nearby, you can also see Aboriginal rock paintings at Bates Cave and discover unique plants like sheoaks, mosses, and insect-eating Drosera plants. It’s a perfect mix of history, science, and fun!

There’s a café, wildlife park, and even a replica Pioneer Town nearby, making it a great day out for the whole family.
