Franklin River Nature Trail

Highlights

Get ready to explore the Franklin River Nature Trail, where you can walk through lush rainforests and see one of Tasmania’s most famous rivers. The Franklin River is legendary for its wild beauty and has played an important role in protecting Tasmania’s wilderness. Walking along its banks, you’ll feel like you’re in an adventure movie!

Fun fact: The Franklin River was once the centre of a huge environmental campaign in the 1980s to save it from being dammed. Thanks to this, we can still enjoy its untouched beauty today. The trail also takes you to Surprise River, another gem in this magical place.

With picnic spots, shady trees, and scenic views, it’s the perfect place for a family outing or a day with friends!

  • Wear suitable footwear and ensure to wear appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the elements..
  • Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
  • Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
  • Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
  • Ensure to let a responsible adult know of your plans and report back into them once you have finished exploring for the day.
  • National park and camping fees apply for Tasmanian National Parks. Check the parks website for bookings and/ or further details.
