Forts Walk
Highlights
Forts Walk on Magnetic Island is a must-see trail combining history, nature, and wildlife. This 4km return walking track takes about 1.5 hours to complete and offers incredible views and fascinating insights into Australia’s World War II history. The trail begins at Horseshoe Bay Road and ascends along a ridge, leading to the ruins of the Forts complex, operated by the Australian Coast Artillery Units from 1943 to 1945.
As you climb, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Palm Island Group to the north and Bowling Green Bay National Park to the south. Keep an eye on the trees along the way – koalas are often spotted dozing among the branches!
At the top, the 360-degree views from the fortifications are truly spectacular, making it the perfect spot for photos. Informative signs along the trail provide details about the fortifications and their role in defending Australia during the war.
The Forts Walk is not only a historical experience but also a chance to connect with nature. With its wildlife, scenic views, and rich history, this trail is a highlight of Magnetic Island.
Adult Supervision Recommended: The trail includes some steep sections. Stay with your adults to navigate safely and enjoy the walk!
