Flinders Beach Camping – North Stradbroke Island, Queensland

Nestled on the northern coastline of North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah), Flinders Beach Camping is one of Queensland’s most sought-after beachfront camping experiences. With its golden sands, rolling dunes, and uninterrupted ocean views, this campsite offers the quintessential Australian island escape — remote, raw, and rejuvenating. Whether you arrive by 4WD for an off-grid adventure or by ferry from the mainland for a weekend getaway, Flinders Beach promises a true island camping experience surrounded by nature, wildlife, and pristine coastal beauty.

See our Must-have Guide to 4WDing and Camping on North Stradbroke Island here.

Flinders Beach is an outdoor playground where the ocean, dunes, and bushland converge. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities, making it one of North Stradbroke Island’s most versatile camping destinations.

  • Beachfront Camping – Wake up to the sound of waves and enjoy ocean views from your tent or camper.
  • 4WD Adventures – The beach is accessible via 4WD, with scenic tracks connecting to Main Beach and inland roads.
  • Fishing – A top spot for surf fishing, with tailor, bream, whiting, and dart commonly caught.
  • Swimming & Surfing – Calm conditions near Amity Point make for great swimming; check tide conditions before entering.
  • Wildlife Watching – Spot dolphins, turtles, kangaroos, and a huge variety of seabirds. From June to November, watch humpback whales passing offshore.
  • Picnics & Beach Walks – Enjoy long strolls at sunrise or sunset along the endless stretch of sand.
  • Stargazing – With minimal light pollution, the night skies are exceptional for photography and stargazing.
  • Cultural Connection – Learn about the land’s traditional owners, the Quandamooka People, whose deep connection to country enriches every corner of Minjerribah.

While Flinders Beach is a low-impact, eco-friendly camping area, it still provides basic facilities to ensure comfort and safety for all visitors:

  • 12 camping zones spread along the beachfront
  • Toilet facilities at selected zones (chemical or composting)
  • Waste disposal points at access locations
  • Fire pits permitted in designated areas (seasonal restrictions apply)
  • Dog-friendly zones (on-leash at all times)
  • 4WD beach access points from Amity Point and Point Lookout
  • Mobile reception in certain areas (limited coverage)

Campers must bring freshwater, food, rubbish bags, and camping equipment as there are no shops directly on the beach. The nearest supplies can be found in Amity Point or Point Lookout, both within a 10–15 minute drive depending on your camp zone.
