Finch Hatton Gorge
Highlights
Finch Hatton Gorge is an exciting rainforest escape packed with waterfalls, rock pools, and incredible wildlife. Located in Queensland, this lush gorge has two main trails to explore: the Araluen Cascades trail (2.8km return) and the longer Wheel of Fire Cascades trail (4.2km return). Both trails take you through sub-tropical rainforest filled with tall trees, bright flowers, and cool shade.
The walk to Araluen Cascades is easier and leads to a beautiful waterfall surrounded by smooth granite boulders. It’s the perfect spot for taking in the scenery or dipping your toes in the refreshing rock pools. For a bigger adventure, continue to Wheel of Fire Cascades, where you’ll find another stunning waterfall and a large pool for swimming. This section of the trail has uphill climbs and stairs, making it more challenging but totally worth it for the views!
Keep your eyes open for rare animals like the Eungella honeyeater and colourful skinks. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a platypus swimming in the waters. For extra fun, you can zip-line through the treetops or go scuba diving in the clear rainforest streams!
Adult Supervision Recommended: Some trails are steep with stairs and slippery rocks. Stay close to your adults while exploring the gorge.
