Chamberlain Gorge

Highlights

Chamberlain Gorge is an exciting spot in the El Questro Wilderness Park where you can cruise along calm waters surrounded by incredible red cliffs. Look out for rock wallabies, Johnston crocodiles (don’t worry—they’re shy!), and the amazing archer fish that can spit water to catch insects!

Did you know Chamberlain Gorge is part of a million-acre wilderness? You can also enjoy a cliff-top dinner or stay at the luxurious El Questro Homestead overlooking the gorge. Visiting between May and September? That’s the perfect time to explore this incredible outback destination!

Adult Supervision Recommended

Since crocodiles live here and some areas are remote, it’s important to have an adult with you to stay safe.

  • Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the local visitor information centre for the most up to date information.
  • Stay safe and get the most out of your visit by preparing for natural hazards and other outdoor risks. You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of those in your care.
  • Wear suitable footwear and ensure to wear appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the elements when outside exploring.

  • Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.

  • Ensure to let a responsible adult know of your plans and report back into them once you have finished exploring for the day.
  • National park fees apply. Check the parks website for bookings and/ or further details.
  • Entry fees may change at anytime at the discretion of WA Parks and Wildlife Services, check their website for the most up to date information.

When you are entering the Kimberley or Pilbara regions, you are entering crocodile country. Two species of crocodile occur in Western Australia: the estuarine (or saltwater) crocodile and the freshwater crocodile. The estuarine crocodile is the largest living reptile and is considered to be a dangerous predator. Freshwater crocodiles are smaller and not as aggressive. Be CROCWISE in Western Australia's north.
