Ready for a trail that changes with the seasons? Cascade Hut Trail in Kosciuszko National Park is like an outdoor adventure chameleon! In summer, bring your bike or hiking boots to explore snowgum forests and breathtaking wilderness. In winter, it transforms into a snowy wonderland perfect for cross-country skiing or snow-shoeing.

This 10km one-way trail is part of the epic Australian Alps walking track, and there’s so much to discover, like Bob’s Ridge, where you can catch views of the Murray River valley all the way to Victoria. Don't forget to pack binoculars for spotting wildlife or scenic views. It’s an adventure for everyone, whether you’re a beginner or a pro!

What You Need To know

Guidelines

  • Always do some research before heading out for your journey. Visit the parks website for up to date information on the current conditions.
  • Ensure to check the relevant website for any updates relating to any warnings that may be issued for the area, park pass prices, opening and closing times.
  • Alpine areas present special safety issues. Weather can change quickly in the Snowy Mountains and snow can fall at any time. Check weather conditions before your journey, and avoid setting out if bad weather is approaching. 
  • Fat bikes, or snow bikes, are permitted year-round on Cascade Hut trail.
  • Walking is not recommended in winter as this trail can become snowbound.
  • You can cross-country ski or snowshoe this trail in winter.
  • Cycling is permitted in the Pilot Wilderness Area only on Cascade trail, Ingeegoodbee trail, and Nine Mile trail.
  • Wear suitable footwear and ensure to bring a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from the elements.
  • Plan ahead and ensure to take enough food and water for your journey.
  • Always stay on the marked tracks where possible. Never climb fences, they are there for your own safety.
  • Please consider the environment, take your rubbish with you or place in the bins provided. We want to ensure these beautiful places are still here for our future generations to enjoy.
  • Ensure to let a responsible adult know of your plans and report back into them once you have finished exploring for the day.
